Sales Bits: Profitability Through Value

Profitability is not accidental—it’s built through value, discipline, and intentional growth. In this Sales Bit, Denny reflects on what it takes to create sustainable success as Vermeer MidSouth approaches a major milestone, highlighting the principles that drive long-term impact for customers, teams, and stakeholders.

From Denny Vander Molen, President of Vermeer MidSouth and Founder and CEO of Jackson Endeavors:

2026 marks the 39th year of Vermeer MidSouth legacy. As we continue to think and process that legacy and move toward sustainability, what needs to happen to celebrate the 40th in high esteem?

The simple thing about business is that it must profitably grow. The business as an enterprise includes our customers, team members, stakeholders, and shareholders.

"In business, profitability is a non-negotiable. If a business is not profitable, it's worthless." Hendrith Vanlon Smith Jr. as CEO of the investment firm Mayflower-Plymouth

How does a company achieve profitability successfully?

  • Velocity of Value: Profit is a byproduct of value creation. Value creation increases with technical knowledge, and individual skills increase by the quality of any solution we provide our customers. Speed matters. What value does it have for any enterprise to be a laggard in solving any problem? Speed and value matter!

  • Stakeholder Ecosystem: Profitability benefits every contributor. When our customers prosper, our team members are rewarded. When customers flourish, our vendors serve the enterprise even more. When shareholders receive an equitable return on their investment, they reinvest in the company and support their local community.

  • Outcome Ownership: Being a good steward of all resources is vital to any organization. Giving that 'little' extra assures complete satisfaction. Understanding the value of time, owning the process, and reducing waste are individual responsibilities that make our efforts rewarding for all concerned.

  • Compounded Excellence: Long-term success is achieved with small daily improvements. Those daily improvements are pivotal in skill set, knowledge, processes, and waste reduction. Everything hinges on people who care for each other. When we bring our best every day, there are no excuses or regrets.

We are blessed to have a team that cares about each other, including the customer. Seeing through the challenges of all that entails in supporting customers is evidenced every day.

For example, one thing that impacts our enterprise is parts. Parts engage customers daily. Parts serve those who work on their own equipment. Parts support our technicians to get those machines back on the job. It has to be the right part, at the right time, and in the right place. It is served by part specialists who really care.

Inventory that has grown by $1.22M in the past year must be what customers want. This is just one segment that sets VMS apart from the rest. The results of your labor are experienced, seen, and felt by many! We are appreciative!

What area for improvement awaits you this week?

Is it knowledge? Is it a process? Is it accuracy? Is it a 'thank you'?

"The plans of the diligent certainly lead to profit, but anyone who is reckless certainly becomes poor." Solomon in Proverbs 21:5

Have a great sales week!
