Sales Bits: Integrity as Your True North

Trust is earned through integrity… through honest work, accountability, and a commitment to doing what is right, even when the path is unclear. In this Sales Bit, Denny reflects on how integrity shapes customer trust, sustainable growth, and the long-term success of a business.

From Denny Vander Molen, President of Vermeer MidSouth and Founder and CEO of Jackson Endeavors:

Challenges can disrupt our everyday flow and goals. The question is: Is disruption a good thing, or something to avoid at all costs?

"Trouble is only opportunity in work clothes." — Henry J. Kaiser

I looked back over the last several weeks of sales bits and noticed how many times I used the term "challenges" to describe the problems we faced during the day. After all, that is what the customer brings to us. But after last week’s focus on consultative selling, I want to pivot: When we become a positive challenge in the market, we become a disruptor.

A Force for Good

Becoming a "Force for Good" requires us to be proactive in challenging the status quo. Our value must reflect a "better way"—driving greater productivity for our customers. But that productivity isn't just speed; it must include safety, affordable operating costs, and long-term ROI.

Our equipment performs tough, demanding jobs—grinding, trenching, boring, and vacuum excavating. These machines must deliver an equitable Return on Investment. Vermeer has always been a disruptor; think of the stump grinder, the horizontal drill, or the vacuum excavator. We are market leaders because we challenged how the work was done.

Disruption Beyond the Iron

Going forward, our disruption cannot start and stop with the product anymore. Our "non-product value"—our service, our parts, and our business processes—must grow even faster than the machines.

The challenge for the coming weeks is this:

  • How can Vermeer MidSouth become a force for good while challenging the status quo?

  • How can we be a positive disruptor in our markets?

  • How can we be the "challenge" that our competitors have to worry about?

The Choice: Proactive or Reactive?

What got us here was challenging the status quo with the best products and services. What will support our future is how we continue to disrupt the "way it’s always been done" for more customers.

What does that mean for you today? Measure your success by the impact you have on others! It will be best served by the experience you have built over time. Will your approach be proactive or reactive? You decide.

"May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands." — Psalm 90:17

Let’s establish our work this week by being the positive force for change our customers need.

Have a great sales week!
